He was a Deputy Sheriff in Harlan County, Kentucky and lost his life in the line of duty December 7, 1971. He left behind a loving wife and fifteen children.

They are the daughters of John D. Saylor & Nannie (Brock) Saylor. Elva's mother passed away before the age of forty; so, Elva Mae was left with the task of raising her younger brothers and sisters. Reva, however, drowned as a child when she fell through the old swinging bridge at Molus, KY. Elva Mae & Reva are the great granddaughters of Ephraim & Aggie (Caldwell) Brock.

John D. Saylor is the son of Robert Saylor & Sarah Ellen (Saylor) Saylor.
Following John D. Saylor's fathers lineage, he is the grandson of Levi Saylor & Arlena Jane Saylor - the great-grandson of Silus Woodson Saylor & Sarah Elizabeth Saylor - and the great-great-grandson of Solomon C. Saylor & Rebecca (Brock) Saylor. Rebecca (Brock) Saylor is the daughter of Aaron Brock & Amy Ann (Waldrup) Brock.
Following John D. Saylor's mothers lineage, he is the grandson of Jefferson Cjraig Saylor & Martha Saylor - Martha Saylor's parents were Levi B. Saylor & Sarah Elizabeth (Pittman) Saylor - and Levi B. Saylor's parents were Solomon C. Saylor & Rebecca (Brock) Saylor.
Therefore, Rebecca (Brock) Saylor was John D. Saylors great-great grandmother from both his father and mother because Levi B. Saylor (his great-grandfather from his mothers side) and Silus Woodson Saylor (his great-grandfather from his fathers side) were brothers.
