This day personally appeared in open Court Before the Court of probate within and for The County of Ripley and State of Indiana now sitting Adam Fox A Resident of the County of Ripley and State of Indiana Aged Seventy five years who being first Duly Sworn According to Law Doth on his oath make the following Declaration in order To obtain the Bennefit of the Act of Congress passed June the Seventh one thousand eight hundred And thrity two that he Entered the Service of the United States as a Substitute for one Henry Reed that he Entered the Service in the State of Maryland in the county of Frederic [Frederick] under the Following Named Officers to wit Captain Valentine Cregger Lieutenant Levy in the month of October in the year of 1779 that he served for the span of two months at Fredric Town [Fredericktown] in the County of Frederic [Frederick] and State of maryland Guarding Refugees that he got a Discharge which was signed By Captain Valentine Cregger which Discharge has been lost He knows of No living witness By whom He can prove his Services He hereby Relinquishes Every Claim whatever to a pention or annuity Except this present and Declares that his name is not on the pention Roal of the Agnecy of any State or Territory what Ever

I Mashack Hyatt - A Clergyman Residing in the County of Ripley and State of Indiana and Ninian Beall Resident in the Same County and State hereby Certify that we are well acquainted with Adam Fox who has enlisted and Sworn the Above Declaration that we believe him to be 75 years of age that he is Reputed and Believed in the neighborhood where he Resides to have been A soldier of the Revolution and that we Concur in that opinion

Answer I was born in the County of Frederic [Frederick] in the State of Maryland on the Sixteenth day of July in the year 1764
Second Have you any Record of your age and if so where is it
Answer my Age was Recorded in my fathers family Bible when I left the State of Virginia about thirty years ago I _____ to take A Copy of the family Record I have never seen my father since that time what Became of the Record I do not know I have no record of this service
3rd where were you living when called into service where have you lived Since the Revolutionary war and where Do you now live
Answer when called into Service I lived in the County of Frederic and State of Maryland where I lived about 27 years from there I Removed to the County of Augusta in the State of Virginia where I lived about 27 years from there I removed unto the State of Ohio County of ____ where I lived About five years from there to the County of Laurelton in said State of Ohio from there I Removed to the county of Ripley in the State of Indiana where I now live
4th how were you called into Service was you Drafted Did you volunteer or were you A Substitute and if A substitute for whom- Answer I Entered the Service of the united States as a Substitute for one Henry Reed
5th State the Name of some of the Regular officers who were with the troops where you Served such Continental and Militia Regiments as you can Recollect and the General Circumstances of your Service
Answer at the time that I hired as A Substitute I was between fifteen and Sixteens years of age I was Serving with Col Joseph Wood in the County of Frederic [Frederick] and State of Mariland [Maryland] I believe Col Wood was A Regiment officer we met and Rundivoued at frederic town [Fredericktown] in the County of Frederic [Frederick] and State of Mariland [Maryland] for the purpose of Marching to Georgetown in this portoin as River to prevent the British troops from Landing at Georgetown But when we got to Frederic town [Fredericktown]we recived word that the Brittish had Returned from Georgetown the Company that was at frederic town [Fredericktown] in frederic [Frederick] County and State of Meriland [Maryland] guarding the Refugees and Mag___ when we got their their time was out and we was placed in their sted wheras I Srved two months No Regular Officer was with us as I Recollect I Do not Recollect their Names of any Militia or Continental Regiment as I was very young.
6th Did you Receive A Discharge from the Service and if So by whom was it signed and what has become of it
Answer I did Receive A Discharge as well as I Recollect Signed by Captain Voluntine Cregger I have Lost my Discharge
7th State the Name of some persons to whoever you are known in your present Neighborhood and who can testify as to your ____ for varsity and their Belief of your Services as A Soldier of the Revolution and John Stockwell John Craven & Joseph Stockwell And the said Court Do hereby Declare their opinion after the Investigation of the matter and after putting the Interrogotaires prescribed by the War Department that the Above named Adam Fox was A Revolutionary Soldier and Served as he States and this Court further Certifys that it Appears to them that Meshack Hyatt who has Signed the preceding Certificate is A Clergman Resient in the Said County of Ripley and State of indiana and that these statements is Entitled to Credit

Pension rejected - Did not serve 6 months
April 30, 1887, Jacob Fox, son of Adam Fox made an inquiry to the War Department about his fathers pension application. He stated that both parents were deceased.
