Revolutionary War Widow Pension Declaration R. 3294


State of Kentucky, County of Clinton

On this 18th day of June 1851. Before me James A. Crouch an acting Justice of the Peace foin and for the County and State above mentioned personally appeared Elizabeth Elliott age (93) Niney Three years a resident of Clinton County aforesaid who being duly sworn according to law declares that she is the Widow of Thomas Elliott deceased late of Clinton County and State of Kentucky and formerly a soldier in the war of the Revolution Virginia Continental line. She further states that she was married to the said Thomas Elliott aforesaid in Sullivan County Tennessee on or about the month of April (1794) Seventeen hundred and ninety four And that her name before her said marriage was Elizabeth Livingston. She further states that her said husband died in Cumberland County Kentucky on 25th day of April (1825) Eighteen Hundred and Twenty five leaving one child at the time of his death, to wit - Sarah Bramlette aged now, (56) Fifty Six years, = That her said husband was about (87) years of age at the time of his death, She also states that her said husband served in the war of the Revolution, That he went into the service as a private soldier and thinks served under Captain Evan Shelby, that he was promoted to the office of Lieutenant in the Company Commanded by his brother James Elliott, that he served under his Brother Captain James Elliott, until the death of the latter, who was killed in battle - She further states that her said husband was then promoted to the office of Captain in the same company which his brother had commanded - She further states that he served during the greater part of the war, and known of her own self that he srved over two years, She further states that she has no documentary evidence in support of her claim, That his discharge and other papers were lost by the burning of the home in which they were placed, That her name is not on the pension roll of the agency of any state, And she makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the pension which is due her from the United States on account of the military service of her deceased husband aforesaid, and she herby relinquishes every Claim whatsoever to a pension or annuity except the present.

Joel H. Cross - Clerk of the County Court in and for the County and State above mentioned do hereby Certify that J. A. Crouch whose genuine signature appears to the forgoing declaration and affidavit is and was at the time of signing the same a Justice of the Peace in and for the County and state aforesaid duly Commissioned and sworn, that all his official acts as such are entitled to full faith and credit is a Court of Record having general jurisdiction

This is to certify, that it appears from a list in this office of such Officers and Soldiers of the Virginia Continental Line as settle their accounts and received certificates for the balance of their Full Pay, according to an act of assembly, passed the November session 1781, directing the Auditors of Public Accounts to settle and adjust the pay and accountys of the said Officers and soldiers from the 1st January 1777, to the 31st December 1781, that a settlement was made on the 19th day of Jany 1785 in the name of Thomas Elliott as a Soldier of Infanty and evidence of the indebtedness of the State to him for L 15.17.4 delivered to Col Cropper
