Declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the provision of the act of congressed passed June 7th 1832.
This day personally appeared before me John R. Crooke a justice of the peace in and for the Township County and State aforesaid Nicholas Baker resident of the County Township and State aforesaid who being duly sworn according to law deposeth and saeth that he is 89 years of age and that he served in the revolutionary war as follows. That he inlisted in Culpepper Court County in the State of Virginia under Captain Crain in the [illegible] Regt militia in the continental establishment commanded by Col Gaston, then Col Pheebecker then Col Posey in the month of March in the year 1781 to serve for two years, combined until [illegible] of the war, having left such at [illegible] were Charleston S. C. and did not get home until after the experation of his time the war being ended as above stated before that time to wit 1774 he enlisted in James??? Pensylvania under Captain James Ross of the Rifle Regiment Commanded by Col Thompson, afterward by Col Hand to serve for twelve months continued in service 14 months was discharged at the white plains in New York was in the battle of Long island Taking of the Hessians at Trenton seige of York & That he was placed on the pension list roll of the Kentucky agency at at the rate of 8 dollars per month to commence on the 16th of June One Thousand eight hundred and Eighteen, That he is sick of the Palsey and is unable to leave his bed and been confined confined to bed for near 3 months past. That he hereby relinquishes every claim whatever to a pension or annunity except the present and that his name is not on the pension list roll of any State except the State of Kentucy as herein stated

State of Kentucky Fayette County
On this 16th day of June 1818. before me, one of the Circuit Judges of the State aforesaid, personally appeared Nicholas Baker, aged Seventy four years resident in Woodford County in said State who being by me first duly sworn according to law, doth on his oath make the following declaration, in order to obtain the provisions made by the late act of Congress entitled "An act to provide for certain person engaged in the land and naval service of the United States in the Revolutionary war." That he the said Baker enlisted in Culpepper County & State of Virginia in the company commanded by Capt Crane, & successively afterwards commanded by Capts Patrict Fields & Lt Craddock of Amelia Cy of the Regt Commanded successively by Col Gason, & afterward by Genl Posey who took command of us at Cumberland old court house in Va. & marched us to the South, that he continued to serve in corps & in the LMS, from the month of March 1781 the day of his enlistment, to the month of February 1783 when he arrived again at home having remained about ten months [illegible] in a hospital at Ashley hills in south Carolina owing to sickness That he was at the siege of York in October when Cornwallis was taken & in Several small skirmishes afterwards & And that he is in reduced circumstances & stands in need of the assistance of his country for support; And that he has no other evidence now in his power of his said services - His orderly Sergeant who has been lately living in Kentucky, having gone to the State of Va. before he could obtain his evidence

I Nicholas Baker in addition to my former certificate before Judge Johnson, & according to the registration of the War office on my certificate & proof hereto attached, do state, that I served in the Virginia line of the Continental establishment - according to the best of my recollection at this late period - I also served 12 months with the Pennsylvania troops in the commencement of the war, under Capt James Ross in Col Hand, afterward Genl Hands Regt I marched in that company & Regt to Boston, Given under my hand this 24th day of April 1819 -

Marriage of Nicholas Baker to Lucy Lampkin
We Nicholas Baker & Edward Lampkin are held & firmly bound unto the Cowealth of Virginia in the full sum of fifty pounds current money to which payment will and truly to be made; we bind ourselves our heirs exers & admins jointly & severally firmly by these presents Witness our hands & seals this tenth day of February one thousand seven hundred and ninety two.
The condiditon of the above obligation is such that whereas there is a marriage suddenly intended to be solemnized between the above bound Nicholas Baker and Lucy Lumpkin spinster daughter of Edward Lampkin of the County of Culpeper. Now if ther be any cause to obstruct the same then the above obligation to be void else to remain in full force

I Fayette manzy Clerk of the county Court of Culpepper in the state of Virginia do hereby certify that the above is a true copy of the marriage license bond of Nicholas Baker remaining on file in my office with the exception of the date which is on paper or the original in fair legible figures as follows this 10th day of February 1791"
